SEWER MAINTENANCE CREW
The Stevens Point Wastewater Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Sewer Maintenance Crew. Major responsibilities involve the operation of the City’s sewer maintenance trucks and equipment under the supervision of the Conveyance Systems Manager and Director of the Water and Wastewater Treatment Departments. Candidates must have clean driving record with valid license and CDL or ability to obtain one. Previous experience in the field is preferred. Salary is per union contract. TITLE: Sewer Crew
RATE: As per current union contract.
NATURE OF WORK:
Under supervision, to accomplish preventative maintenance, cleaning and repair of sewers and lift stations. Drive and operate sewer trucks with accessories, tank truck, televising equipment, fork lift and other equipment.
Respond to sewer calls, troubleshoot problems and repair as needed.
Work with the public and other City employees.
Record all information related to work daily and provide it to the Conveyance Systems Manager. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Perform preventative maintenance, repair and cleaning of sewers and lift stations. Perform televising of sewers. Maintain daily, monthly and annual work records for all work performed.
Drive and operate sewer trucks and equipment with accessories to include cutter, jetter, televising equipment and computers.
Respond to sewer calls and other authorized city department support requirements.
Troubleshoot back up problems and repair as needed.
Perform all other duties assigned as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of the materials, methods, equipment and techniques commonly used in sewer preventative maintenance, repair and cleaning. Knowledge of driving and operational and maintenance procedures, to include accessories for sewer truck and other equipment. Ability to trouble shoot back-up problems and repair requirements for sewers. Ability to keep daily, monthly and annual records of work completed for distribution to Director, Conveyance Systems Manager, or other Water and Wastewater Department personnel.
Knowledge of work zone safety and traffic control procedures.
Knowledge of operation procedures of various hand tools, heavy equipment and trucks.
Knowledge of confined space, gas monitor detectors, tripod and other safety procedures.
Ability to maintain accurate, complete, clear, detailed records and reports and to document any pertinent information.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, printed, oral or diagram form.
Must have regular, predictable attendance. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to complete assignments on time. Must be available to work evenings and weekends as required with minimal notice. Ability to get along with general public and co-workers.
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from High School or equivalent. Must have a valid Wisconsin driver’s license and Class B CDL (Commercial Drivers License) with air brake endorsement. Experience with sewer operation, maintenance, cleaning and televising to include all related equipment and reporting requirements. Training completed to maintain NIMS (national incident command system) compliance.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to work in all outdoor environmental conditions from extreme heat, rain snow, and humidity, to extreme cold. Must be able to bend, twist and squat occasionally 6 - 8 hours per day and be able to lift 50 – 100 lbs.
Must have no limitations that result from exposure to sanitary sewer odors.
Must have no restrictions that impair starting and stopping procedures in vehicles.
Must be able to sit to drive continuously 6 - 8 hours per day and shift either standard or automatic transmissions with right hand and arm.
Must have no limitations on seatbelt use or restrictions that impair entering and exiting vehicles or equipment.
Must have no limitations that restrict shoveling of snow or dirt for 6-8 hours per day.
Must be able to utilize hand controls continuously 6 - 8 hours per day.

SEASONAL GROUNDS KEEPER
The Stevens Point Water Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of seasonal groundskeeper. Under the supervision of the Wastewater Superintendent, major responsibilities involve the operation and maintenance of lawn mowers, weed control equipment etc. and the ability to drive to sites that need mowing. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and be at least 17 years of age. Salary is $8.50 per hour for 20 to 40 hours per week.
